Mornin' Y'all,
In this humid and hot weather it is nice to think of cooler temperatures and Christmas Music! In light of that, Christmas in July is a nice break from the heat. I have been trying to design my Christmas card in my head while painting the kitchen cabinets but have not come up with a solid idea for it yet. I just know I love snowmen and that it will most likely have something to do with that.
Dreaming Tree is going to do a Christmas in July and I thought this ornament would look cute hanging in my house maybe a few of them this year. It is always good to start thinking about these things early and maybe ahead in Christmas presents while your at it. So think cool thoughts, put some Christmas music on, turn the AC up and lets get started...
I started with the Cherry Bomb design from Dreaming Tree's Stars and Stripes Forever Bundle.
Using Ruby Slipper Bazzill card stock I cut the body of the ornament. I had already decided I wanted to make this using Simple Stories Cozy Christmas Collection from last year. I cut the Blue portion out using paper from that pack. I altered the stars size a bit and will list the sizes at the bottom of this post.
To add the glitter to the paper I used Versa Mark ink, Stampin' Up heat and Stick and Art Glitter's Christmas Red ultra fine Glitter. Take your Versa Mark Ink pad and stamp it all over the pieces you want glitter on, then sprinkle Stampin' Up Heat and Stick all over the wet Versa Mark ink. If you got it on areas you need to glue use a dry paint brush and brush off the Heat and Stick. Heat the heat and stick using your heat tool until it is shiny, then sprinkle your glitter onto the shiny portions, heat again to set the glitter. Using the same dry brush wipe off any excess glitter. Keeping the glitter off the portions you would glue helps the item hold together that much better when it is adhered.
Continue to assemble the lantern as you would normally. I did remove the hole at the top of the lantern sides so that the sides would be solid.
I used a gold pen to ink the edges of the gold paper for a more finished look. The gold at the top of the ornament was from something else I cut, but I liked the shape and added it to the top. You could make one as well by cutting with scissors. You can use glue to adhere it but Glossy accents holds a bit better. Before I adhered the liner to the top of the inside ornament, I poked a hole through the top and inserted my wire. I made a curly q and turned it sideways to lay flush with the top inside. I wrapped the wire around a dowel a few times in either direction to make an S hook and cut of the excess.
I punched small holes in the stars at opposite ends and tied twine through them to hold them together then adhered the top star and the last star to the side of the ornament adding a sparkly bow for affect. To light the ornament take a small glue dot and stick it to the bottom of a battery operated tea light. I have the color changing ones that I use at Christmas a lot. For the Photo I used one of the lights that Mary from SVG cuts used for her Eiffel tower. There you have it a Cherry Bomb turned Christmas Ornament!
I hope you enjoyed this little ornament and if you do make one I would love to see what you came up with. Stay cool and may you have all your Christmas Cards and handmade gifts done before November! Oh wouldn't that be great then all you would have to do is play with the new bundles and kits coming out around that time... awe.. so sad lol. Thanks so much for stopping by and reading my blog and Happy Craftin' Christmas in July Y'all!
Blessings Sharalyn
